Six Bond University Rugby Club players have been chosen for the 2017 Queensland Reds Under 20s – and a further four in the Western Force and Melbourne Rebels U20s teams - marking the club’s biggest-ever representation in the national Super U20s Championship.
Gavin Luka, Angus Blyth, Calum Ball and Hamish Stewart all made their Reds Under 20s debut in the starting line-up against the Melbourne Rebels on the weekend, alongside Bond teammates Dylan Riley and Harry Nucifora who were Reds U20s representatives in 2016 also.
The Bond contingent made a strong contribution to the Reds’ 30-13 victory over the Rebels – a team which featured another Bondie, Hayden Sargent in its line-up – to open the 2017 Super U20s Championship at Brothers Rugby Club in Brisbane.
Bond Head Coach Sean Hedger said he was very proud to see Bond University dominate the starting line-up of the Reds U20s team.
“All the boys did Bond Rugby and themselves proud, with Hamish Stewart named man of the match and Harry Nucifora’s golden boot racking up numerous penalties and conversions to help the team to victory,” he said.
“This is a fantastic start to what we hope will be another strong and successful year for Bond University Rugby Club.”
The Queensland Reds U20s will take on Western Force U20s - a team that features yet another three Bond rugby players – Ben Grant, Lachlan Currie and Nick Luyt - this Saturday 4 March, 2.00pm (local time) at Nedlands Rugby Club in Perth.
