Bond University cheerleaders, the 'Sharkettes', are taking their team spirit all the way to the USA to compete in the ICU World University Cheerleading Championships in Florida this Friday, 9 January.
The team of 12 girls won the World Bid to represent Australia at the international meet after winning the University Dance Grand Champion title at the Australian All Star Cheerleading Federation (AASCF) National Scholastic Cheer and Dance Championships in Sydney in November of last year.
Bond University Cheerleading club president Elizabeth Halikos said she was incredibly proud of the team's achievements thus far, considering the girls had only been performing together for four weeks prior to winning the World Bid to compete against the best universities across the globe.
"There is only one University World Bid awarded in the dance category in Australia each year, so to be the recipients of that is a real honour," said Elizabeth.
The Sharkettes will commence competition on Saturday 17 January, showcasing their skills alongside teams from the USA, Japan, Mexico, China and Colombia.
The World University Cheerleading Championships will run from 16-18 January at the Walt Disney Resort in Florida, and you can follow their progress at the Bond University Cheerleading Club's Facebook.
