June 1, 2015

Bond's resident surfing superstar Codie Klein is making waves overseas, competing in both the International Surfing Association (ISA) World Surfing Games in Nicaragua and the World Qualifying Series event in Mexico this month.

Codie is one of just six surfers representing Australia at the ISA World Surfing Games, an event that brings together surfers from 32 countries to compete in Team, Open Men and Women divisions.

From Nicaragua she will then fly to Mexico to compete in the World Qualifying Series event, Los Cabos Open of Surf, held in San Jose del Cabo.

The 21 year old is part of the Bond Elite Sport Program, where she is currently studying a Bachelor of Commerce.

Bond University's Director of Sport, Garry Nucifora, said Codie was a consistently high achiever in both surfing and her studies.

"Codie is a very impressive young lady. She is currently ranked in the Top 40 in the World Qualifying Series rankings and maintains a distinction average in her academic pursuits," he said.

"Through the Bond Elite Athlete Fund we have been able to provide funds to help get her to the ISA World Surfing Games in Nicaragua, and we are excited to follow her progress in the event.

"Bond is proud to support elite athletes like Codie in the balanced pursuit of their academic and sporting goals."

The ISA World Surfing Games kicks off today (June 1) in Nicaragua, followed by the start of the Los Cabos Open of Surf in Mexico on June 9.
